چکیده

The production of bacterial cellulose has gained prominence in recent years as an alternative for the sustainable materials that might be used diverse processes and applications. present study discusses possibility producing tailored membranes situ, relevant characteristics potential use air/gas filtration. Various cultivation characterization studies were performed to ascertain suitability Komagataeibacter sp. FXV3, NFXK3, K. intermedius LMG 18909 strains produce with properties. Subsequently, films produced freeze-dried obtain stable membranes, extensively characterized their physicochemical results obtained showed different enabled synthesis distinctive morphological Moreover, carbon sources ethanol concentrations employed media led modifications by strains, which further impacted membrane morphology and, ultimately, gas filtration behavior. All synthesized fully characterized, showing adequate mechanical properties, tested permeance N2, CO2 O2, opening perspectives

Filtration, Diffusion, and Molecular Sieving through Porous Cellulose Membranes

1. A study has been made of the diffusion and filtration of a graded series of molecules (including tritium-labelled water, urea, glucose, antipyrine, sucrose, raffinose, and hemoglobin) in aqueous solution through porous cellulose membranes of three degrees of porosity. 2. Experimental results were in close agreement with predictions based on the membrane pore theory of Pappenheimer et al. (1,...

Cellulose Acetate Nanofiltration Membranes for Cadmium Remediation

In this work, cellulose acetate (CA) nanofiltration (NF) membranes were prepared via non-solvent phase inversion technique (NIPS). Polymer concentration was varied from 22 to 25 wt% in order to study its effect on the membrane properties. The fabricated membranes were characterized in terms of morphological analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle, water content, water p...

Investigation of Bacterial Cellulose Biosynthesis Mechanism in Gluconoacetobacter hansenii

The present study explores the mechanism of cellulose biosynthesis in Gluconoacetobacter hansenii. The cellulose synthase enzyme was purified as membrane fraction and solubilized by treatment with 0.1% digitonin. The enzyme was separated by native-gel electrophoresis and β -D-glucan analysis was carried out using in vitro gel assay. The cellulose synthase has glycoprotein nature and composed tw...

Recombinant biosynthesis of bacterial cellulose in genetically modified Escherichia coli

Bacterial cellulose (BC) exhibits unique properties such as high purity compared to plant-based cellulose; however, commercial production of BC has remained a challenge, primarily due to the strain properties of cellulose-producing bacteria. Herein, we developed a functional and stable BC production system in genetically modified (GM) Escherichia coli by recombinant expression of both the BC sy...

Preparation and Characterization of Antibacterial Cellulose/Chitosan Nanofiltration Membranes

Presently, most nanofiltration membranes are prepared with non-biodegradable petrochemical materials. This process is harmful to the ecosystem and consumes a large amount of non-renewable energy. In this study, biodegradable and biocompatible antibacterial cellulose/chitosan nanofiltration membranes (BC/CS-NFMs) were fabricated and characterized for their mechanical strength, antimicrobial acti...
